Outcomes of the 7th Regional Economic Cooperation Conference on Afghanistan that was held in Ashgabat on 14-15 November have been reviewed at the session of the Government of Turkmenistan. As reported by the Vice Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rashid Meredov, the forum was attended by delegations from the countries of the Asia-Pacific Region, Middle East, Europe, America, and also by representatives of specialized agencies and entities of the UN, international and regional organizations and major banking and financial institutions. During the two-day Conference, a wide range of issues on integrating the neighboring country into the processes of regional and international cooperation has been discussed. The signing of the Agreement on Transit and Transport Cooperation between Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey and Turkmenistan became a key event for the forum. The new international transport corridor will enhance the fruitful cooperation in a wide geo-economic space that includes the regions of Central and South Asia, Caspian and Black Sea basins and the Mediterranean. The Ashgabat Declaration was adopted unanimously as the outcome document of RECCA VII. It reflects the willingness of the participating nations and international organizations to intensify the cooperation in regional and interregional dimensions. Summarizing the report, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stressed the significance of the Ashgabat Conference in the further consolidation of global efforts to foster Afghanistan’s peaceful development. The head of state noted that Turkmenistan initiates major infrastructure projects in energy, transport and communication with participation of the Afghan side, and will continue to render systematic assistance in the social and economic revival of the friendly country.
