Eight medals brought from the Asian Weightlifting Championship and the bronze medal won at the international tournament, have become Turkmen sportsmen’ first awards in the international sport arena in 2015. The Asian Championship was held in the capital of Qatar – Doha, where our countrymen won three silver and five bronze medals. Prior to the Championship, our sportsmen had won a bronze medal at the second Qatar Weightlifting Cup. In total, nine medals have been won. Nearly 200 weightlifter from more than 20 countries participated in the Asian Championship. All the three sportsmen, who represented Turkmenistan, returned home with medals. In the team of Turkmenistan, the best result was achieved by Muhammednur Jannyev (weight class under 94 kg), who performed in a 17-20 junior age group. The student of the National Sport and Tourism Institute has become a three-time second-place winner at the Championship. M. Jannyev distinguished himself in all weightlifting disciplines: the snatch lift - 140 kg, the clean and jerk lift -165 kg with the total weight lifted in the double-events – 305 kg. Nurmuhammed Toichiev (over 94 kg), who performed in under-17 age group has won another three bronze medals. His results are: the snatch lift -137 kg, the clean and jerk lift – 137 kg with the total weight lifted – 243 kg. The 16-year-old sportsman’s success is particularly impressive, since it was his first-ever performance in the international sport arena. Muhammed Dovranov (under 77 kg), who represented our country in the junior group, won 2 bronze medals: in the snatch event he succeeded in lifting a 166 kg barbell, this contributed to his total weight in the double-event – 302 kg. Over 100 sportsmen – the world’s strongest weightlifters, who had become medalists at last year’s world championships and tournaments, took part in the Qatar International Weightlifting Cup. Among the best weightlifters at the competition was our country’s representative Dayanch Ashirov – a bronze medal winner at the Junior World Weightlifting Championship held in Kazan (The Russian Federation) last year. The student of the National Sport and Tourism Institute has reiterated his achievement, having become a bronze medallist in the weight class under 77 kg. His present result - 314 kg, beats the result (three kilograms more) obtained at the world’s championship. This is evidence of our weightlifter’s professional advancement.
