On January 29, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov received Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Elmar Mamedyarov. Taking advantage of the opportunity, the head of the neighboring country’s Foreign Ministry has expressed support for all the initiatives put forward by the Turkmen side, having underlined Azerbaijan’s willingness to make combined efforts with Turkmenistan to ensure peace, stability and security in the Central Asian and Caspian regions, and in the whole world. In this connection, the sides have emphasized the significance of the trilateral meeting of Foreign Ministers of Turkmenistan, Turkey and Azerbaijan in Ashgabat, whose agenda consists of a broad range of issues, including interstate cooperation in the sphere of energy security and creation of modern transit and transport infrastructure, given the neighboring countries’ advantageous geographical and geo-strategic position on the world map, and existing energy resources. In the shared opinion of the sides, the upcoming trilateral summit of the Presidents to be held on the initiative of the Turkmen leader Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov in Turkmenistan this year, will make a serious contribution to development of the entire region. Applauding the by-now high level of the interstate relations and bright prospects for their further advancement, given the mutual interest, existing potential and commonality of the priorities of the two countries’ socio-economic development, the President of Turkmenistan and the Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan have highlighted the necessity of intensifying the established fruitful relations in a number of key areas, including the trade-economic, fuel and energy fields, which are traditionally of top priority. Special emphasis was placed on the importance of establishing the closest humanitarian and cultural relations which promote further spiritual closeness of the two brotherly peoples, long since connected by common history, traditions and customs. The parties have shared the opinion that gradual realization of the bilateral top-level and intergovernmental agreements, as well as regular political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, meetings of representatives of the two countries’ business circles as well as reciprocal participation in large-scale cultural events will directly contribute to strengthening of the interstate dialogue based on the principles of equality and mutual respecting cooperation.
