On February 2, President of Turkmenistan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the country, General of the Army Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov conducted a meeting of the State Security Council devoted to this year’s one-month activities of the military and law enforcement agencies. Chairperson of Mejlis A. Nurberdyeva also attended the session. At the beginning of the meeting, the head of national parliament informed the nation’s leader about the work carried out jointly with the agencies concerned in accordance with the commission of the head of state given at the video-selector meeting (held on January 19) on improving the existing legislation on combating illicit drug turnover, in particular, on making amendments to it, which provide for strengthening of the punishment for such crimes. Then, Secretary of the State Security Council of Turkmenistan, National Security Minister Ya. Berdiev reported to the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the country on the implementation course of the radical reforms in the military sphere, as well as on the goal-directed work, conducted in January by the Ministry of National Security on maintaining peace in the country. Next speaker, Commander of the State Border Service of Turkmenistan M. Yslamov informed about the comprehensive work performed last month on protecting the inviolability of maritime boundaries and land borders of our country, which traditionally maintains friendly and good neighborly relations with all adjacent states. Minister of Defense B. Gundogdyev focused his report on fulfillment of the earlier presidential assignments on gradual implementation of the large-scale military reform, whose key aspects are strengthening and modernization of the national army’s material-technical base, training of professional military personnel, as well as ensuring of social security of servicemen and members of their families. The report of Interior Minister of Turkmenistan I. Mulikov was an extensive coverage of the running year’s one-month results of the Ministry’s and its structures’ activity, the ongoing work on improving the fire-fighting service, strengthening its logistics, as well as the ongoing program activities on ensuring traffic safety. The work of prosecution agencies, assigned to ensure strict observance of the letter and the spirit of the law, to detect and prevent any violation of the national legislation were key aspects the report of Prosecutor General of Turkmenistan A. Hallyev was centered on. The many-sided work conducted in the reporting period on improving the country’s judicial system, bringing it in strict compliance with internationally recognized standards and high requirements of the epoch of power and happiness was in the focus of the report made by Chairman of the Supreme Court B. Charyev. Then, Minister of Adalat of Turkmenistan B. Muhamedov reported on the Ministry’s work in the period under review on all-round development and strengthening of the national legislative framework aimed to successfully advance the country to new heights of socio-economic development. Chairman of the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan A. Hojamgulyev concentrated his report on the ongoing work on the customs operations improvement, as well as the concrete measures taken last month to implement earlier presidential assignments. Then, the head of the State Service for Protecting Security of the Healthy Society of Turkmenistan A. Osmanov reported on the specific steps taken in the reporting period, in the frames of the adopted programs for combating illicit drug turnover and use of narcotic substances. Chairman of the State Migration Service D. Bairamov informed about the work executed in the period under review, whose outcomes are clear evidence of a steady growing tendency towards increase in the number of foreign visitors to Turkmenistan in the last few years. Some other issues were considered at the State Security Council meeting, and the relevant resolutions were adopted.
