Turkmen sportsmen have achieved notable success at the West Asia Wu-shu Championship held in the city of Zahedan (Islamic Republic of Iran). In the “sanda” discipline (combats) our Wu-shu fighters won two silver and four bronze medals. National teams from 13 countries, including Kuwait, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and others participated in the competitions. Our country was represented by eight Wu-shu sportsmen at the Championship, six of whom became prize winners. Salaheddin Bairamov (weight class under 65 kg) won another medal (a silver one) in his career. On the way towards the final, he won two convincing victories over sportsmen from Lebanon and Iraq. Our compatriot knocked out the Lebanese sportsman at the beginning of the second round. In the decisive combat, our fighter met with a representative of the home team and lost to his opponent in an obstinate fight. Muhammed Kurbanov (under 75 kg) won another silver medal for our national team. Having gained a victory over a sportsman from Kazakhstan in the quarterfinal, the Turkmen Wu-shu master met with a representative of the Iranian team in the semi-final. Despite the loud cheers from supporters in the stands, the Iranian sportsman was not able to resist M. Kurbanov’s attack and as a result, lost the final. In the gold medal fight, our fighter lost to a Pakistani sportsman on points. Bronze medals in the team of Turkmenistan were won by Charygylych Tagangylyjov (under 56 kg), Rahat Rahimov (under 60 kg), Gochmurat Jumaniyazov (under 70 kg) and Kemal Sahatov (under 85 kg). All the winners are pupils of the Ashgabat Complex Sport School of the Ashgabat Sports Committee.
