Turkmen sportsmen have achieved another success at the large international chess tournament. In the “Khazar Cup” Tournament, held in the city of Rasht (Islamic Republic of Iran), our countrymen won two medals – gold and bronze. At the “Moscow Open” Tournament held in the Russian Federation’s capital, Maksat Atabaev achieved an IM norm and was awarded the International Master title, having become the youngest title-holder in Turkmenistan. The tournament held in the Iranian city brought together over 500 sportsmen from 12 countries – Russia, the USA, France, Ukraine, Latvia, Lithuania, our country and others. Participants competed for medals in four groups. Turkmen chess players won a medal in the Group “C”. FIDE Master Bahar Hallaeva has become a silver medal winner. Turkmenistan’s reigning chess champion gained 7 points in the competitions (based on the Swiss system of 9 rounds), having lost only to a representative of Iran. Another Turkmen sportswoman – FIDE Master Gozel Atabaeva gained the same number of points and became a bronze medalist, having lost on rating points to her countrywoman. In the same group, another representative of the Turkmen team Mengli Ovezova won fourth place, having gained 6.5 points. In the men’s Group “B”, (in which over 200 chess players competed for medals) FIDE Master Hairula Haitbaev achieved a good result. The participant of the 2013 World Students Games in Kazan gained 7 points out of 9 possible, having entered the group of sportsmen who took 4-12 places. Only 0.5 points prevented the Turkmen chess player from winning a medal. Besides, the classical chess competitions, blitz chess events were also held in the city of Rasht. Each player had 3 minutes for a game with extra 2 seconds added after every move. Merjen Yalkapova has distinguished herself; she is in the top five chess players of the international tournament. As mentioned earlier, 20-year-old Maksat Atabaev achieved the international master norm at the high-level “Moscow Open” Tournament. In addition to the record achievement, the pupil of Honored Chess Trainer of Turkmenistan Orazly Annageldyev is the youngest chess player, who became a winner at the men’s National Premier League Chess Championship. In the competitions in Moscow, representatives of the International Chess Federation examined chess trainers from more than 30 countries in different categories. O. Annageldyev was awarded a FIDE Organizer certificate, qualifying him as a Senior Trainer of Turkmenistan’s national team, who can participate in organizing any international competitions, including world and Asian championships. Trainer Aidogdy Atabaev passed two exams, qualifying him as a FIDE Arbiter. From now on, the Turkmen trainer is qualified to participate in any chess competitions as a referee, as well as to work as a trainer in any country of the world.
