The third day of the XVIII Summer Asian Games was marked by wonderful event. Our weightlifter Kristina Shermetova has won silver medal in the weight category up to 53 kg. K. Shermetova confidently managed to lift maximum weight of 93 kg declared among all participants from the third attempt. It provided her with the leadership in clean and jerk discipline. She was followed by Hidilyn Diaz with minimum lag. In snatch, both girls took the weight of 110 kg at first. Our sportswoman went with the injury to the second attempt, which she received in the first trial. However, she managed with the weight of 113 kg. Her opponent took over our athlete, having lifted the weight of two kilograms more. In the last attempt, K. Shermetova was not able to cope with declared weight of 116 kg. The representative of Philippines was not able to lift the weight but one kilogram in previous attempt was enough for the victory. This is deserving result of our sportswoman and new medal to the collection of silver prize-winner of 2017 World Championship. The day before, Merdan Atayev was successfully qualified for the final in 50 meters short water backstroke having demonstrated 26.08 seconds. In the final, he improved the time to 25.88, however, this result was the eighth among all participants. Free style wrestling tournament is finished. The fifth place of Batyr Borjakov, who missed one good throw to win the bronze, is the best result of our team. The coach noted that our team is relatively young. It was necessary to test our potentially strong wrestlers. These competitions were good training for the World junior free style wrestling championship in Slovenia in September. Turkmenistan National basketball team starts playing in 3X3 format in the fourth day of the Asian Games. It will have three matches with the teams from Iraq, Kazakhstan and Afghanistan. Greek – Roman wrestling and swimming competitions will also take place.
