Turkmen sportsmen were a great success at the two Asian Junior Championships – in boxing and Greco-Roman wrestling. In total, six medals - one silver and five bronze, replenished the “piggy bank” of Turkmenistan’s sport achievements. To participate in the boxing events, about 120 young boxers from 14 countries of the Asian continent - Japan, the Republic of Korea, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and others arrived in the capital of Uzbekistan - Tashkent. Here, the athletes from Turkmenistan won one silver and a bronze medal. Geldimyrat Toiliev (Ashgabat) took the second place. In the semifinal (under 80 kg weight class), a graduate Beknazar Annaorazov confidently defeated the Arab fighter, but in a bitter struggle for «gold» gave way to a representative of the Asian Championship host country - Uzbek athlete. G.Toilieva’s success is doubly impressive, given his first-time attempt at the international-level event. Reaching the final in the competitions of the kind opens up great prospects for the young Turkmen boxer. Another medal - a bronze one – was deservedly won by Yunus Davletov (a competition debutant). Coached by Dadebay Geldynazarov, a boxer from Dashoguz distinguished himself in the weight class under 60 kg. ...At the Asian Greco-Roman Wrestling Championship (among the cadets 1998-2000 years of birth) in the Indian city of New Delhi with participation of hundreds of athletes from 18 countries, the Turkmen team won four bronze medals. Three of them were won by the alumni of the Ashgabat Greco-Roman Wrestling School: Resul Bayramov (coach Nepes Gukulov, under 46 kg); Seidulla Tazayev (mentor Aman Geldyev, under 58 kg); and a trainee of the Honored Coach of Turkmenistan Hasan Rasulov - Aslan Guliyev(under 85 kg). The fourth bronze medal was won by Edward Shaginian from the seaside town of Turkmenbashi. Coached by his father - Arthur Shaginian, took the third place in the weight class under 69 kg.
