Turkmenistan, which has the world’s fourth largest reserves of natural gas, is actively implementing the energy strategy aimed to increase “blue fuel” exports and diversify its supply routes to the world’s largest markets with their evergrowing demand for energy resources. In compliance with the order of President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov, the “Turkmengaz” and “Turkmennebitgazgurlushyk” State Concerns are constructing the “East-West” gas pipeline (the longest one in the country), using their own resources. The pipeline will enable to link all the gas main lines, having become a supplementary guarantee for uninterrupted supply of “blue fuel” not only for domestic needs, but also to international pipelines – both existing and new ones. By now, the first three line sections have been fully prepared for hydraulic testing for strength and tightness. In these sections from the city of Serdar to Belek, 250 kilometers of pipes were welded and laid in trenches, in total more than 600 kilometers of pipes (1,420 mm in diameter) were assembled. The builders of the 773-kilometer-long “East-West” gas pipeline with an annual throughput capacity of 30 BCM of gas are completing welding works and assembling at the other six sections of the large-diameter pipeline. According to the work schedule, the contracting organizations will have completed the construction of the linear section of this strategic gas transport system by the end of this year. The new pipeline laid from Shatlyk to Belek, is designed for transporting natural gas from the largest fields of Eastern Turkmenistan to other pipelines of the country, increasing volumes and improving reliability of gas exports, as well as of domestic gas supply. A control center to be created on the route will enable to operate the entire pipeline network as a single universal complex: to increase or decrease gas flows, to change their direction, depending on domestic and export needs.
