Meeting of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Moldovan Commission

Last week, Ashgabat hosted the first meeting of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Moldovan Commission for Trade-Economic Cooperation, organized within the framework of the official visit by President of the Republic of Moldova Nicolae Timofti to Turkmenistan. The agenda of the forum, held in the Agricultural Complex building, included a wide range of issues of the multifaceted bilateral cooperation. Among those attending the forum were executives and representatives of the two friendly countries’ state institutions and privately-owned enterprises. In this connection, the parties discussed the top-priority areas and concrete steps aimed at diversification of cooperation with its excellent prospects, given the considerable potential available and priorities of the two friendly countries’ socio-economic development. Placing emphasis on Turkmenistan’s and Moldova’s mutual interest in diversification of the political-diplomatic, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian relations, the meeting participants expressed confidence that the Commission’s activity would give new powerful impetus to the full-scale partnership further development in the trade-economic, energy, construction spheres, textile industry, transport and communications, agriculture, food and processing industries, and others. The parties also spoke in favor of deepening the cultural, scientific and educational contacts, and advancing the interaction in sports and tourism. In particular, the meeting attendees stressed the necessity of taking agreed-upon measures to deepen the trade and economic relations, increase the export-import operations, and expand a range and volume of goods supplied and services rendered. By common consent, co-organized exhibitions, fairs and meetings of representatives of the two countries’ business circles, as well as a regular exchange of information about planned activities will directly contribute to these. Having highlighted the exceptional importance of regular bilateral meetings at various levels, including business forums and political consultations, the meeting participants expressed confidence that the agreements reached during the summit meeting of President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov and President Nicolae Timofti in Ashgabat would be a preface to a new stage of the multi-aspect and highly constructive dialogue in the interests of the two countries and fraternal peoples.
