Turkmenistan – UN: Joint project in trade and development sphere

The main vectors of cooperation were discussed during the session held in video conference format between representative of foreign Ministry, State Customs Service and the UN Conference for Trade and Development (UNCTAD). The attention was focused on realization of joint project of the State Customs Service, UNCTAD and UNDP “Implementation of Single Window of Turkmenistan for international trade” in the context of realization of the second phase of the Concept of development of digital economy in 2020 – 2023. Formation and establishment of integrated information system, which is widely used in world practice owing to advanced technologies, is one of important projects implemented by initiative of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in partnership with the UN specialized structure. Activity of the UNCTAD, which includes 195 countries, is aimed at provision of comprehensive support to international trade and equal, beneficial relations including by implementation of relative programmes. Last year, the State Customs Service and UNCTAD signed Project Agreement on technical cooperation in implementation of integrated information system ASYCUDA World, by which Single Window network would be used by all customs terminals of Turkmenistan. Modern software is to support establishment of electronic declaration and facilitation of registration and documentation procedures. Use of this system, which has proven its efficiency, is one of important objectives, which was clearly defined in the Programme of development of foreign economic activity of Turkmenistan in 2020 – 2025 made under the leadership of head of the State and approved by relative Resolution of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on December 6, 2019. Formation of modern infrastructure of effective interdepartmental cooperation and operative informational exchange opens new perspectives. It is expected that use of international practice of digital economy will considerably simplify customs procedures, which will support activation of foreign economic activity and growth of export of production made in the country. Having confirmed the interest in further intensification of established fruitful cooperation, the sides reviewed the subjects related to the joining of Turkmenistan the UNCTAD Council as well as well as exchanged the views on expansion of multilateral partnership.
