Executive Director of the UN Population Fund Natalia Kanem has sent letter addressed to President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. In her message, the Head of the United Nations structure expressed her regret that she had to postpone her visit to Turkmenistan in the beginning of the year due to COVID-19 pandemic as well as said that she hopes to come to the country in the nearest future. The Head of the UNFPA expressed interest in Turkmenistan in the light of the last results in the sphere of reduction of preventable maternal mortality and morbidity, which are the lowest in the Eastern Europe and Central Asia. Natalia Kanem has made special mention of efficiency of measures of Turkmen government, which are aimed at focusing of attention to reproductive health of the population under national health protection policy and joint Country Programme of Turkmenistan and the UNFPA in 2016 – 2020. Mrs Kanem thinks that this is correct to support high impulse of efforts and investments to this sphere during pandemic. From her side, she assured the Head of Turkmenistan that her organization is willing to provide support to Turkmen health protection system in order to improve achieved progress. High-rank UN Representative expressed gratitude to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for permanent support of the UNFPA Programme in Turkmenistan.
