Turkmenistan – UN Children Fund: Cooperation in humanitarian sphere

Provision of support in preparation of National Report to the UN Committee for Children Rights was the subject of two0day seminar held in video conference format by the UN Children Fund (UNICEF) Representative Office in Turkmenistan. Representatives of ministries, government and public organizations, which are the part of Working Expert group of Interdepartmental Commission for provision of fulfilment of international obligations of Turkmenistan in human rights and international humanitarian law, took part in the forum. It was mentioned that protection of rights and freedoms of young citizens of the country is a priority of socially oriented government policy. Due to the measures taken in Turkmenistan, all conditions are made for comprehensive and harmonic development and education of growing generation, reveal of their talents. The UN agencies, especially the UNICEF, are the main partners in this responsible work. Significant list of successfully accomplished and current joint projects aimed at expansion of the utmost objectives of the state development, which are closely related to the Sustainable Development Goals, is the result of long joint activity. This is also indicated by election of Turkmenistan as a member of the UNICEF Executive Council in 2018 – 2020. In the context of implementation of universal international standards, our independent state has joined number of fundamental international and legal acts, including the UN Convention on Child Rights and to its two optional protocols. It was highlighted that Turkmenistan carries out systematic work for fulfilment of undertaken obligations as well as strengthens cooperation in this sphere. This year, our country will present another periodic report to the Committee for Child Rights, which will highlight the progress achieved in promotion of the Agenda in the sphere of child rights in the context of achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. In this regard, the importance of expansion of cooperation under the Country Cooperation Programme between Turkmenistan and UNICEF in 2021 – 2025 in the main fields of provision of wealth of children, namely in management, health protection, social protection as well as in qualitative inclusive education, has been noted. The seminar will continue its work on the next day.
