Today, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has received CEO of the State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) Rovnag Abdullayev.

Appreciative of the personal audience, the guest passed on warm greetings to the head of Turkmenistan from President Ilham Aliyev, who had reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s commitment to steadily boosting the traditional partnership across a whole spectrum of areas.

During the meeting, convened in a businesslike and constructive manner, the parties highlighted that Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan have enormous economic, energy, and transport and logistics potential. This opens up ample opportunities for the effective cooperation in strategically important areas.

In this regard, an exchange of views was held on prospects for the partnership in the oil-and-gas industry and joint projects. Detailed discussions revolved around the issues concerning the hydrocarbon exploration, development and production at the Dostluk field in the Caspian Sea.

Special emphasis was placed on the importance of the Memorandum of Understanding on the above-said oil-and-gas field signed between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan in January 2021. A bilateral agreement is now being drafted on the basis of the document.

Giving much attention to the adoption of best practices, high technology and the latest scientific-technological innovations in the fuel and energy sector, our country is always open to mutually advantageous partnerships with leading foreign companies, the head of state noted.

Concluding the meeting, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the SOCAR CEO exchanged their best wishes and expressed their confidence in closer and stronger long-standing ties of friendship and fraternity between the peoples of Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan and the successful continuation of the bilateral cooperation built on an equal footing and mutual benefit.
