President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov has put forward new international initiatives in the transport sector for landlocked countries.

The head of state spoke about them in a video message to the participants of the International Conference at the level of ministers of transport of developing countries that do not have access to the sea, which opened on Monday in the city of Turkmenbashi on the Turkmen coast of the Caspian Sea.

The President of Turkmenistan said: “I propose to consider the   establishment of special working group at the UN, which would purposefully defend the    interests of landlocked developing countries in the transport sector, and conduct a systematic work with the relevant UN agencies for this purpose”.  

The head of state also proposed to develop a resolution of the UN General Assembly on enhancing the role of landlocked developing countries in the development of global transport cooperation.

The President said: “We also consider it to be in due time to start drafting a General Assembly resolution «On   enhancing the role of landlocked developing countries in the development and strengthening of global transport cooperation»”.

According to him, "such a document could give a substantive impetus to the promotion of the interests of our states, to show the significance and understanding of appropriate issues, and the commitment of the world community to their solution".

The Turkmen leader emphasized: "Turkmenistan stands ready to proceed with the preparations of this document, and open for all kinds of   constructive proposals and recommendations".
