On November 16, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the 47th session of the authorized representatives of the Caspian states continued its work. The forum is attended by the heads and leading specialists of ministries and departments of Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkmenistan. In the focus of the meeting, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the State Service of Maritime and River Transport of Turkmenistan and the State Enterprise on the Caspian Sea Issues under the President of Turkmenistan, is drafting of new documents to replenish the by-now legal base of cooperation of the region’s states. During the expert-level meeting, a circumstantial, interested exchange of views was held on the Turkmenistan-developed draft Agreement on the Caspian states’ cooperation in the field of transport. Maximum unleashing of the potential of the Caspian Sea, which is regarded as a large communication hub of the continental importance, is the strategic compass course, which offers the prospects for significant expansion of trade-economic relations between the Caspian littoral states in terms of their access to the world market. This, in particular, is the target of the Agreement on cooperation of the Caspian states in the field of transport, which envisions establishment of the Caspian regional transport-logistics center. In this regard, rather actual is the Turkmen President-initiated and the UN General Assembly-approved Resolution «Role of transport-transit corridors in ensuring international cooperation for sustainable development». In pursuance of the Resolution, on November 26-27, 2016, under the aegis of the UN Ashgabat will host the Sustainable Transport System Global Conference.
