On November 25, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov met with the Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe Lamberto Zannier, who had arrived in the Turkmen capital to attend the Global Sustainable Transport Conference to be held under the aegis of the United Nations. Warmly welcoming the guest, the head of state thanked him for his personal participation in the upcoming international forum that would focus on a broad spectrum of issues related to one of the key areas such as transport infrastructure. Sincerely grateful to the head of state for warm hospitality and the opportunity to discuss topical issues of cooperation in the one-on-one format, the OSCE Secretary General highlighted the invariable interest of the international organization he leads in expanding the effective partnership with Turkmenistan for the sake of general welfare and sustainable development. In the course of meeting, an interested exchange of opinions was held on a wide range of issues related to the prospects for strengthening the long-term partner relations between Turkmenistan and the OSCE. Among the cooperation-favored trends of top priority the parties sorted out the energy security, regarding it as a crucial factor for global sustainable development, and the settlement of situation in Afghanistan, to the economic recovery of which our country has been contributing considerably all these years. In this context, the large international infrastructure projects ongoing in Turkmenistan have taken on new perception. They promise to be plentifully awarding not only to their participants, but also to all countries of the region. One such is the transnational railway - Atamyrat-Ymamnazar-Akina, (the first phase of the Asian International Railway Corridor project), which after launching in the near future will start transporting first goods to Afghanistan; another one is the oil terminal (a facility capable of receiving, storing and delivering petroleum products) at the customs station of Ymamnazar.
