In the frames of the world forum, Ashgabat hosted a sectoral business-forum

On November 27, the Turkmen capital hosted Transport Business Forum, held in the “Yyldyz” Hotel, in the framework of the events timed to the Global Sustainable Transport Conference. The business forum brought together the leaders and representatives of the UN sectoral agencies and structure, large international organizations and banks involved in the implementation of major transport projects, as well as in the elaboration of global principles of interaction and development of transport systems. The meeting was also attended by representatives of the renowned international logistic, construction, and technologic companies, which may boast of their vast experience in the sphere of transport sector and have at their disposal a large package of the appropriate and effective innovative developments. Opening the business forum, the UN Deputy Secretary-General Gyan Chandra Acharya highlighted the importance of transport routes of the planet for the countries’ development and for providing quality-of-life improvements to the people. At the plenary session, the heads of the leading international organizations - including Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin – the World Bank Group’s Senior Vice President for the 2030 Development Program and interrelation with the UN; Mr. Jean Todt – President of the International Automobile Federation (FIA); Mr. Umberto de Pretto – President of the International Road Transport Union (IRU); Dr. Fang Liu – Secretary General of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) – spoke about the forum’s particular importance for establishing productive partnerships and initializing large-scale logistics projects. The business forum agenda was focused on such topics, as the implementation of the UN initiatives on the planet sustainable development strategy till 2030, financial efficiency of large-scale introduction of the sustainable transport concept into practice, the role of modern technologies in ensuring transport safety and power efficiency of the sector. Consideration was also given to some issues related to the by-now state of the air, road, rail and sea transport. Construction of the Asian International Railway Transport Corridor (Phase 1) – Atamyrat-Ymamnazar (Turkmenistan)-Akina (the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan) is yet another significant milestone in the domestic transport history. The ceremonious opening of the railway is scheduled on November 28. A number of various documents were signed within the frames of the Conference. Thus, today Turkmenistan has acceded to: Intergovernmental Agreement on the Trans-Asian Railway Network; Intergovernmental Agreement on the Asian Highway Network; Intergovernmental Agreement on Dry Ports; and International Convention on Coordinating Conditions of Conducting the Border Cargo Checks.
