Today, a meeting of the Central Commission for Elections and Referendums in Turkmenistan was held, dedicated to the issues of preparation for the elections of Mejlis deputies in electoral districts “Garaşsyzlyk”#1, “Bitaraplyk”#2 and “Köpetdag”#6 of Ashgabat city instead of those who left early.

It was attended by members of the Central Election Commission, employees of the Central Election Commission, representatives of working groups created under the Central Election Commission, responsible persons for national observers from political parties and public organizations, and the media.

The agenda includes issues related to the upcoming socio-political event. Thus, elections of deputies of Parliament to replace those who retired early in accordance with the Resolution of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan are scheduled for Sunday, July 7, 2024.

Members of the Central Election Commission discussed and approved a plan of activities designed to ensure the election campaign and holding elections at a high organizational level.

According to the Electoral Code of Turkmenistan, the Resolution of the Central Commission for Elections and Referendums in Turkmenistan announced the start of the election campaign from April 26, 2024. Nominations of candidates will take place from May 8 to June 6. Registration will be carried out from May 18 to June 11.

Members of the Central Election Commission heard information about the work being done to prepare for this socio-political action. It was noted that the implementation of the principles of democracy is ensured on the basis of the current election legislation, the national traditions of people’s democracy that have developed over many centuries, modern technologies for organizing and conducting elections, equal rights of voters and candidates, and ensuring the free expression of the will of citizens. In this regard, among the primary tasks is to ensure transparency and wide alternativeness of elections.

The CEC meeting, taking into account the messages heard and based on further tasks for holding elections, considered other organizational issues and made appropriate decisions.
