Today, the fifth meeting of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Georgian Commission on Economic Cooperation was held in the capital, becoming an important stage in the implementation of agreements reached at the highest state level and confirming the commitment of both countries to long-term partnership.

During the meeting, the heads of the Commission expressed satisfaction with the high level of development of interstate relations. As emphasized, the regular Turkmen-Georgian dialogue serves as a solid foundation for expanding cooperation in the political-diplomatic, trade-economic, and cultural-humanitarian spheres.

Speakers from the Turkmen side noted that under the wise leadership of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and with the support of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Hero-Arkadag, large-scale programs aimed at modernizing the national economy and expanding international cooperation are being successfully implemented. The deepening of regional interaction and the strengthening of relations with friendly Georgia fully correspond to the goals and objectives of Turkmenistan.

Participants of the meeting focused on the importance of diversifying trade turnover, discussed the current state of export-import operations, and considered issues related to expanding the range of export-oriented goods, including petrochemical, textile, and agricultural products.

The transport and logistics sector was identified as a priority area of bilateral cooperation. Participants exchanged views on the development of modern transport infrastructure capable of ensuring efficient cargo transportation along the Caspian Sea–Black Sea route, which would connect Central Asia and Europe.

In this context, special attention was paid to the capabilities of the Turkmenbashi International Seaport as a major logistics hub. The Georgian side expressed interest in increasing transit cargo volumes through the port of Poti. The use of this port’s potential opens a shorter route for Turkmenistan to European markets and gives strategic significance to cooperation within the framework of the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor. The integration of the capacities of the Turkmenbashi International Seaport and the port of Poti will create a logistics chain between the Caspian and Black Seas, making it possible to increase cargo transportation volumes.

One of the key issues discussed during the meeting was the energy sector. It was noted that there are broad opportunities for implementing energy projects and developing the Lapis Lazuli transport corridor. As emphasized, cooperation in this area will not only positively impact the economies of both countries but will also make a significant contribution to ensuring the energy and transport security of the Eurasian region.

In this regard, the parties reviewed the prospects for the participation of Georgian companies in the implementation of various projects in Turkmenistan, as well as opportunities for bringing Turkmen energy resources to international markets through Georgia’s transit potential.

Traditionally, the humanitarian sphere was also identified as one of the priority areas of cooperation. In this context, the participants discussed the prospects for holding Cross-Cultural Days, scientific conferences, and sports events, which would contribute to strengthening friendship and mutual understanding between the peoples of Turkmenistan and Georgia. The participation of scientists and creative figures from both countries in joint forums, festivals, and exhibitions promotes the strengthening of mutual trust.

The need for more active use of the opportunities provided by joint business forums and exhibitions to establish direct contacts between the business communities of the two states and to successfully implement economic initiatives was also emphasized.

Following the fifth meeting of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Georgian Commission on Economic Cooperation, the relevant Protocol was signed, consolidating the agreements reached and defining specific directions for the implementation of planned activities.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties expressed confidence that the results of the session held in Ashgabat would serve as a strong impetus for the further development of multifaceted Turkmen-Georgian cooperation that meets the interests of both countries.
