On May 13, 2026, during his visit to the Republic of Tatarstan of the Russian Federation, the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held a telephone conversation with the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.

Exchanging warm greetings, the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan and the Head of the Russian Federation highly praised the current state of the consistently developing cooperation between the two countries.

President Vladimir Putin cordially thanked the National Leader of the Turkmen people for his contribution to strengthening bilateral friendly ties and, taking the opportunity, conveyed warm greetings and best wishes to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

In turn, the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, noting the contribution of the Russian leader to deepening Turkmen-Russian relations, emphasized that expanding strategic cooperation with the Russian Federation stands as one of the priority tracks of Turkmenistan's foreign policy, and conveyed best wishes from President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

During the telephone conversation, the National Leader of the Turkmen people noted that Turkmenistan consistently expands its multifaceted and systemic partnership with Russia, as well as cooperation in a multilateral format. In this context, the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan emphasized the importance of international events to be held within the framework of Turkmenistan's chairmanship in the Commonwealth of Independent States.

President Vladimir Putin is also expected to participate in the CIS Council of Heads of State meeting scheduled for October 2026.

The trade and economic sector holds a special place on the agenda of Turkmen-Russian cooperation. The cultural and humanitarian sphere also serves as an important component of interaction. At the same time, great importance is attached to partnership in such areas as science, education, healthcare, and culture.

As the National Leader of the Turkmen people noted, bilateral cooperation in the fields of science and education is consistently developing. A clear testament to this is the education of Turkmen students in the higher educational institutions of the friendly state. In this regard, the Hero-Arkadag voiced a number of proposals.

In concluding the telephone conversation, the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin extended to each other wishes of good health, well-being, and success in their responsible state activities, and to the friendly peoples of Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation – well-being and prosperity.
