Speaking during the ceremony of inauguration ceremony, the President of Turkmenistan emphasized the importance of enhancing the role of the Elders’ Council in the life of the state. Thus, the next session of the Elders’ Council to be held in Ahal Velayat this year will focus on the legislative amendments to the Provision on the Elders’ Council to enhance its importance, which will be further considered by the Mejlis of Turkmenistan. It means that in future, none of any crucial decisions related to the internal and external policy, which is to be adopted by the Mejlis or the Cabinet of Ministers, cannot come into force without approval of the Elders’ Council. The Turkmen leader underlined the significance of strengthening the bodies of the local executive authorities, increasing the efficiency of work of the local electoral representative public authorities – velayat, etrap and city Halk Maslakhaty, and enhancing the role of local public authorities – Gengesh in the social and political life. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that that government would apply every effort to improve the work of the newly established parties. Consolidation of the social and legal security of people and legal support of citizens was specified among the key tasks. It was noted that the institution of ombudsman would start its work in the nearest future. Moreover, the President drew attention to the decisive combat against international terrorism, extremism, transnational organized crime, illicit drug trafficking. In this regard, it was underlined the importance for close cooperation with international organizations. The President said that the National Army, Air and Naval Forces, border units stood as a reliable guarantee of security of peaceful life of our people and emphasized that guided by the Military Doctrine, which is purely defensive in nature, the government would consistently increase the power of our the Armed Forces.
