The Turkmen – Belarussian talks held in Ashgabat in expanded format – with the participation of the official delegations of the two countries confirmed the commitment to the course of cooperation in the framework of international organisations. For instance, the Republic of Belarus is the co-author of the draft of the Resolution of the UN General Assembly “The International Day of Neutrality”, which was initiated by Turkmenistan and unanimously adopted during the session of the UN General Assembly. In this regard, the President of Turkmenistan focused on the tremendous potential for further cooperation of the two countries in various authoritative structures in such areas as sustainable energy and energy security, transport, self-defeating problems, ecology and environment protection, achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov expressed gratitude for the active participation of the delegation of Belarus in the work of the UN Global Sustainable Transport Conference held in Ashgabat in November, 2016. It was noted that Turkmenistan and Belarus worked closely to combat the contemporary challenges and threats, including transnational terrorism, illegal drug trafficking and cross-border criminality.
