The President of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Abdulaziz Kamilov, who attended the celebration of the Turkmen Horse Day. During the meeting, the President of Turkmenistan and his guest exchanged views on the prospects of Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan relations, and stressed that today, with due account for the priorities of state development of the two countries, new possibilities open up for intensification of the mutually beneficial cooperation throughout its spectrum. It was specifically stressed that agreements between Presidents Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Shavkat Mirziyoyev, reached during the visit to Turkmenistan of the head of Uzbekistan, are currently being successfully implemented. As noted by the head of Turkmenistan, the dialog between the friendly countries and peoples is characterized with the high level of mutual understanding and trust, and this serves as a firm basis for the progressive development of the partnership both in the bilateral format and within international organizations. Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are also known for the proximity or similarity of approaches to the pressing regional problems, and this stands as an important prerequisite for joining efforts to ensure sustainable development and stability in the region. Transport and communication; energy; tourism; sports and other spheres were named among priority areas of cooperation. A particular subject discussed at the meeting was the development of Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan cooperation in the humanitarian sphere. Stressing the importance of the further activation of scientific and information exchange and contacts with the purpose of studying the cultural and historical heritage of the Turkmen and Uzbek peoples, the sides expressed the mutual interest in convening regular international forums with participation of scientists and experts from the two countries. Concluding the meeting, the President of Turkmenistan and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan expressed their confidence that relations between the two neighboring countries that are built on the principles of longevity and sealed with strong bonds of friendship will continue to develop successfully. The meeting was also attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Turkmenistan, Akmalzhon Kuchkarov.
