Turkmenistan hosted the dialogue ""Central Asia + Japan

The 6th meeting of foreign ministers of the countries participating in the Dialogue ""Central Asia + Japan"" was held in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. Foreign ministers of Japan, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan arrived in Ashgabat to participate in the meeting. The subject of discussion included issues related to the addition of efforts to ensure security, consolidate peace and stability in regional and global dimension. The participants in the meeting spoke in favor of intensifying cooperation in countering the dangerous challenges and threats of modernity, such as terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking and organized crime. Issues related to assisting the sustainable development of Afghanistan, achieving peace and stability in that country were considered, which is an important factor in ensuring regional and international security in general. By steadily implementing the peaceful foreign policy strategy, stemming from the status of permanent neutrality, Turkmenistan makes a significant contribution to the consolidation of common efforts in this direction. The issues of expansion of trade, economic, investment and business partnership of the countries of Central Asia and Japan in agriculture, energy and energy security, as well as in the field of renewable energy, innovative technologies, training of qualified personnel were also considered. The topic of the discussion was on strengthening of partnership in the field of transport and logistics infrastructure. Participants of the meeting paid attention to the issues of ecology and environmental protection, climate change, prevention of natural disasters, and spoke in favor of continuing practical cooperation in these areas. Noting the importance of expanding the humanitarian and cultural exchange, the meeting participants welcomed Turkmenistan's proposal to include this direction as a new basis for the Dialogue, appreciated other activities and steps taken by the parties in this area. The sides confirmed their intention to promote cooperation in the sphere of nuclear disarmament and peaceful use of atomic energy, where a number of important treaties - on non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, comprehensive ban on nuclear testing, and zone free of nuclear weapons in Central Asia - are fundamental. Following the results of the 6th meeting of the foreign ministers of the countries participating in the Dialogue ""Central Asia + Japan"", a Joint Statement was signed and a ""Road map for regional cooperation in the field of transport and logistics"" was adopted. The next, 7th meeting of foreign ministers in this format will be held next year in the Republic of Tajikistan, which took office as Chair of the Dialogue for the period of 2017-2018.
