A new issue of the special-interest magazine covers modern trends and architectural traditions

A new issue of the quarterly magazine, “Construction and Architecture of Turkmenistan”, which has just come out, covers the application of the latest construction materials and building units, offers information on newly-built buildings and architectural monuments in the country’s towns, describes a legal framework and regulations for architectural and construction works. The issue opens with an article on new bridges over the Amudarya River – a highway bridge and a railway bridge, which have been recently put into operation. The bridges are noted for engineering design innovations. The reader will find helpful information about them, and a series of photographs will feature distinctive design elements. The issue also focuses on the ongoing construction of the capital’s Parakhat-7 residential neighborhood. New solid-cast high-risers will differ from other residential buildings erected in the neighborhood not only in building technology, but also in façade architecture, apartments and the areas they cover, and ceiling height. Over 400 families from Ashgabat will move into new apartments in ten 9-story residential building in near future. One of the articles in the magazine addresses new ornamental statues put up in the center of three intersections in Nurmuhammed Andalib Street in Ashgabat. Other articles discuss the legal framework for architectural and construction works, explain provisions of the newly adopted Law of Turkmenistan “On architectural activities”. The section “Science” contains a special-interest article entitled “Building of modern cities in Turkmenistan”, which talks about the launch of town-planning projects in the towns, such as Atamyrat, Bairamali, Serdar, Turkmenabat, and Turkmenbashi at the turn of the 19th and the 20th centuries. Today, many buildings have been identified as architectural monuments. Articles, entitled “Turkmenistan and the Energy Charter” and “Energy audit of a building – a decision-making instrument”, look at continuous and reliable natural gas and power supplies to domestic consumers, and exports of energy resources to other countries. The section “Theory” offers an article on the impact of climate on architecture, the influence of national identity on building activity at different times. Another article “Design – the central core of a building project” explains the requirements specified by “Building regulations of Turkmenistan” for designers, and describes the entire cycle of works – from pre-project documentation collection to onsite architectural supervision. The magazine also features a fundamental document on construction in earthquake-prone regions, and issues of construction aimed to improve ecological monitoring of irrigated areas.
