Turkmenistan counts on Tajikistan’s support on environment-related issues

During the talks in Dushanbe, it was underlined the necessity to enhance cooperation in the bilateral and multilateral format in the environmental sphere. In this regard, Turkmenistan suggests specifying the work on the establishment of permanent specialized structures in the Central Asian region to focus on the international cooperation in the environmental sphere. In particular, the matter concerns on the establishment of the Regional Centre for technologies on climate changes under the aegis and with the active support of the United Nations Organisation. Turkmenistan also stands for the further intensification and improvement of the work of the International Fund for the Aral Sea (IFAS), an important regional structure aimed at ensuring cooperation to improve the ecological and socio-economic situation in the Aral region. As the country, presiding over the IFAS, Turkmenistan jointly with the countries, members of the Fund developed the Concept that reflects the priority plans of joint work. In this regard, Turkmenistan counts on the close cooperation with Tajikistan to ensure the more efficient work of the Fund. Turkmenistan will host the Summit of the Heads of the Member States of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS) in 2018.
