The transport sphere today ranks among the priority areas of the Turkmen-Tajik cooperation. As is known, the construction of the Asian international railway corridor – Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan has been launched in accordance with the top-level agreements achieved in March, 2013. Its first section – Atamyrat-Ymamnazar-Akina was put into operation in November, 2016. The joint opportunities for developing the above-mentioned corridor on the territory of Afghanistan have been studied at present. It was noted that Turkmenistan aims at fulfilling the agreements achieved earlier and hopes for the constructive cooperation with Tajikistan on the implementation of this project. With regard to the cooperation on the global transport strategy, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasised that our country had drafted the resolution “Strengthening the links between all modes of transport to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals” and submitted it for the consideration of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly. The leader of Turkmenistan expressed the hope that Tajikistan would support this initiative.
