The past week was marked with the trilateral meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Turkey in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The two friendly countries’ delegations led by Foreign Ministers Elmar Mamedyarov (Azerbaijan) and Mevlüt Çavuşoglu (Turkey) had arrived in Ashgabat to participate in the talks. The agenda of the meeting, held in the atmosphere of mutual understanding and business-like manner, included the priority issues of further development of the constructive trilateral partnership serving both the interests of the sides and the goals of welfare on the regional and global scale. In the frames of the meeting, an interested exchange of opinions was held on the key trends of fruitful interstate cooperation, including the trade-economic and humanitarian-cultural spheres. Having stressed adherence of Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, and Turkey to the constructive political dialogue, the parties have expressed their support for further strengthening of the contacts via the three countries’ Foreign Ministries. In the course of the talks, the availability of wide opportunities for cooperation in the energy sector with its considerable potential was emphasized as well. In this connection, the sides have stressed the topicality and importance of the international initiatives put forward by Turkmenistan in this field, including the ones on ensuring global energy security as an integral factor of universal sustainable development. The transport sector was sorted out among the priority areas of interaction, given the three countries’ most favorable geographical position. In this context, the Foreign Ministers have highlighted that at present, Turkmenistan is carrying out the large-scale work on upgrading and strengthening the relevant domestic infrastructure of all types of transport, at the same time initiating large-scale international projects and successfully implementing them jointly with foreign partners. The construction of the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran transnational trunk railway, which was solemnly inaugurated in last year’s December, serves as an eloquent example. In this context, the parties gave consideration to the Afghanistan-Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey transport corridor project, which could become an integral part of the modern regional and international transport-communication system in the future. Possibilities of the three countries’ participation in other prospective infrastructure projects were also discussed. Along with excellent prospects for cooperation in the economic sphere, the accent was placed on the significance of advancing and enhancing the traditional humanitarian and cultural relations between the three countries as one of the key components of the interstate relations. The rich cultural and spiritual heritage and unbreakable ties of friendship between the three fraternal peoples are a reliable foundation for development of the fruitful partnership between Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Turkey in the modern historical epoch. Efficient cooperation within the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY) can be cited as a striking illustration. The importance of preparations for the upcoming summit of the Presidents of Turkmenistan, the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Turkey to be held in Turkmenistan was also pointed out. Upon completion of the talks, the ceremony of signing a Joint Statement was held following the results of the trilateral meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Turkmenistan, the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Turkey. The Framework Program of the Turkmen-Azerbaijani-Turkish cooperation for 2015-2017 was also adopted.
