On February 19, independent neutral Turkmenistan celebrates the big national holiday - State Flag Day. President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov took part in the festivities held in the Turkmen capital to mark the remarkable date in the national calendar. In the morning President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov arrived at the festively decorated square in the southern part of Ashgabat where the grand 133-meter flagpole (one of the world’s highest flagpoles) with the flying State Flag of Turkmenistan is located. The leader of nation took part in a solemn flower-laying ceremony held in honor of State Flag Day. The head of state was warmly welcomed by the government members, heads of Mejlis, military and law-enforcement bodies, ministries and departments, Ashgabat city’s khyakim, and khyakims of the capital’s etraps, honorary elders, youth, representatives of public organizations and mass media. Among the people assembled were heads of diplomatic representations and missions accredited to Turkmenistan, foreign businessmen working in our country, as well as numerous residents of Ashgabat. There came a grand moment. To the inspiring strains of the State Anthem, the national Flag solemnly flying in the morning sky filled the hearts of the ceremony participants with sincere pride for their beloved prosperous Motherland. In the solemn atmosphere, the President of Turkmenistan laid a wonderful wreath at the base of the giant flagpole. Following the head of state, all the people assembled laid bouquets of flowers. The festivities in honor of the State Flag Day were held countrywide. They became the embodiment of indissoluble unity and solidarity of the Turkmen people, their devotion to wise precepts of the glorious ancestors, the happy creative present and the bright future, irreversible progressive advance of the Motherland towards new remarkable achievements and labor victories.
