On May 4, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov, who was on a visit to the Republic of Italy, visited the “Villa Borghese” Park in Rome, located next to the residence of the Turkmen leader – the “Westin Excelsior” Hotel. The head of Turkmen state took a walk around the famous Park, a well-known tourist attraction of Italy’s capital and one of the most popular recreational areas for residents of Rome. The Park is home to museums, an open-air riding hall, Siena Square – a venue for annual horse shows and parades, the Botanical Garden. Majestic monuments, pavilions and fountains are surrounded by rows of Italian pines, high magnolias and dense bay trees. There is a variety of beautiful summerhouses and splendid fountains everywhere. Playgrounds, cafés, bicycle and rollerblade rental stations are also available in the Park. One can have a boat ride on a large artificial lake, created in the middle of the Park at the end of the 18th century. The Park became one of the areas of the World Exposition (EXPO), hosted by Turin and Rome in 1911. In the course of the get-acquainted excursion to the Park, the head of Turkmen state was giving assignments to Deputies Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, who accompanied him, on studying the Italian experience in organizing similar park complexes, a system of services provided, and establishing partnership in the field of modern landscape design, etc. The head of state gave much consideration to the extension of cultural relations. Pride in their culture and history, traditions and adherence to the national values, openness to international cooperation unite the Turkmen and Italian peoples, who cherish kindly feelings to each other, in the humanitarian context. In this sphere, we have gained experience of long-term cooperation. Many years of fruitful activity of Italian archaeologists in Turkmenistan can be cited as an eloquent example. At the same time, there are many other aspects in the cultural field for establishing relations, dictated by the time – the epoch of a dialogue of cultures and civilizations. There is also enormous untapped potential for cooperation in the sphere of tourism, in which Italy has a wealth of experience that undoubtedly will be useful to Turkmenistan, especially with a glance to the “Avaza” National Tourist Zone being created on the Caspian Sea coast. The President of Turkmenistan continued the morning walk with traditional warm-up activities. In the “Villa Borghese” Park, the Turkmen leader watched uniformed riders take part in a practice session. Astride horses, they were forming differently-shaped columns on the field. As it turned out, that was a regiment of cuirassiers – a cavalry unit of the Carabineros Corps, whose principal duties are to provide an escort of honor, to ensure security of the President of the Republic of Italy, take part in the state ceremonies. The surprise meeting became especially symbolic, and as a mark of respect for the high guest, the mounted cuirassiers formed an orderly column, and marched ceremonially in front of the head of Turkmen state, paying honors. Interested in the training system of the honorable regiment of carabineros, the nation’s leader Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov had a conversation with their commander, asked about methods of training horses, including for shows, and told about the Turkmen horse training school. In the course of the conversation, the President of Turkmenistan put forward a proposal to share experience of Italian cavaliers with Turkmen riders, having invited them to visit our country – the historical homeland of the Akhalteke breed and presented his book “The Akhalteke horse – our pride and glory” as a gift. Concluding the get-acquainted excursion, the nation’s leader summed up the instructions given to some executives on studying the useful experience accumulated in Italy.
