On May 26, President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov received Mohammad Shaker Kargar - a special representative of the President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan for the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States. During the meeting, the nation’s leader and the representative of the President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan exchanged opinions on the prospects for further development of interstate cooperation in its several key areas. A separate subject for discussion was the interaction between the two countries in the fuel and energy, transport and communication spheres, notably in the practical implementation of the Turkmenistan-initiated large-scale construction projects - the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) transnational gas pipeline and the Turkmenistan-Tajikistan railway via the territory of Afghanistan. The sides agreed that construction of the railway section up to Andkhvoy (in the territory of Afghanistan) will be implemented by the Turkmen side. In the framework of meeting, due to the sides’ coordinated position in the pricing issues, the agreement was achieved on increasing the supplies and transportation to Afghanistan of the Turkmenistan-produced fuel products, in particular, oil products and liquefied gas. Special consideration was also given to the possibilities of increasing export volumes of Turkmen energy to Afghanistan. Summing up the meeting, President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov and special envoy of the President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mohammad Shaker Kargar expressed confidence that in the years ahead, the Turkmen-Afghani relations would successfully develop on the bilateral and multilateral basis backed by the best age-old relations of friendship and good neighborliness.
