On March 13, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov, who was on a working visit to Japan, received the Rector and academic staff members of the Hirosaki University of the National Corporation of Universities of Japan. The meeting took place in the “Metropolitan” Hotel – a guest residence of the head of Turkmen state, who had come to the Japanese city of Sendai to participate in the III United Nations World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction. Stressing the availability of exceptionally rich potential and broad prospects opening up for fruitful joint work, President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov spoke for the appropriateness of establishing large-scale contacts between prestigious scientific and educational centers of Japan and the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, higher education institutions of our country, exchanges and joint research in the field of education. As the Turkmen leader stressed, education is a boundless area of cooperation. Japan is world-known for its intellectual and scientific potential, which is of interest to Turkmenistan and can be acclaimed in our country, especially in training of young specialists, as well as implementation of projects in the field of high technologies. In this context, the President of Turkmenistan spoke in favor of keeping on the work with Japanese scientists in such a vital area for the modern world as use of solar energy, in particular, setting up production of silicon-based solar batteries (silicon is in abundance in the boundless Karakum Desert). Prospects for scientific cooperation in the chemical industry, production of agricultural fertilizers, and ecology were highlighted as well. Great significance is attached to the III United Nations World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in tackling the present-day global issues, the head of state said, having stressed a role of joint work of scientists in that crucial field. Given the interest expressed by representatives of the Japanese scientific community, special theme of discussion was potentialities for establishing partnership between the Hirosaki University, one of the most prestigious higher education institutions not only in the Land of the Rising Sun, but also in the world and leading higher education institutions of Turkmenistan. The parties stressed the importance of conducting joint research and meetings of scientists in the frames of forums, facilitating the development of fundamental and applied science, application of scientific achievements in different fields.
