On March 14, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov met with Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe in the Sendai International Center, the venue for the III United Nations World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction. Touching upon the World Conference agenda in the course of discussion, the Turkmen leader and the head of government of Japan stressed the importance of the forum in Sendai in the context of combining international efforts to work out optimal solutions to the crucial issues – concerns of the international community, and to adopt the new post-2015 Action Program. In continuation of the meeting, the President of Turkmenistan and the Prime Minister of Japan exchanged opinions on prospects for the Turkmen-Japanese partnership in its priority directions, noting the availability of favorable conditions for realization of multi-aspect potential of interaction in the trade-economic field, encouragement of investment activities, and diversification of productive contacts within business entities. As President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov has noted, Turkmenistan, pursuing the innovative development strategy and following the way of the national economy’s industrialization, is keenly interested in deepening the relations with Japan with its considerable experience, including in the field of high technologies – our country attaches much significance to active adoption of them. In this context, an emphasis was placed on the willingness of business circles of Japan to expand their presence in the promising Turkmen market, and participate in new joint projects in various sectors. The meeting of the President of Turkmenistan with representatives of big Japanese companies held in Tokyo on March 13 in the business lunch format serves as a striking example. Addressing his speech to heads and representatives of Japanese companies – world’s leaders in the field of high technology products, the Turkmen leader sorted out the priority areas of partnership in the context of realization of its considerable potential. In the course of detailed discussion of the potentialities available for deepening the productive interaction, Japanese partners voiced their proposals on cooperation and enhancement of its practical efficiency. During the conversation, the Turkmen leader and the head of government of Japan noted an important role of the traditional humanitarian-cultural cooperation, as an integral part of interstate relations – a key factor contributing to closer ties between the two countries. Today, the Turkmen-Japanese cooperation in this field is based on the accumulated extensive experience and has the most favorable prerequisites for further development of the productive contacts in education, science, culture, as well as sport and tourism.
