On August 13, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov received Vice-President of Asian Development Bank (ADB) Mr. Wencai Zhang. Truly grateful to the Turkmen leader for advantage of the opportunity of personal meeting, the guest underlined the leading financial institution’s interest in further strengthening of fruitful cooperation with the dynamically developing Turkmenistan. As experts of the Asian Development Bank predict, one of the key indices of the Turkmenistan’s national economy development – GDP, will be kept up on a high level till the end of the current year, stressed the guest. In this context, strengthening of bilateral relations with Turkmenistan has great perspectives given its enormous economic and resource potential, as well as favourable investment climate created in the country. Welcoming the ADB Vice-President, President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov has emphasized that Turkmenistan gives priority significance to the development of interest-based relations with the reputable financial institutions. As the head of state noted, a number of important national and international projects have already been realized with participation of the Asian Development Bank including construction of the «North-South» railroad artery. Welcoming the role of Transaction Consultant this large regional financial institution plays in the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) transnational gas pipeline construction project, the leader of nation expressed his gratitude to the ADB Vice –President for a constructive approach to partnership. In the course of meeting, the interlocutors exchanges views on the perspectives and opportunities for intensification of bilateral cooperation in the light of large-scale reforms and transformation programs realized in Turkmenistan. Expressing readiness for fostering cooperation and making it more productive, the President of Turkmenistan and his guest have coordinated the approaches to implementation of joint projects aimed at further socio-economic development of Turkmenistan and the region in general. Noting that today wide opportunities are available for efficient partnership between Turkmenistan and the Asian Development Bank, President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov confirmed our country’s willingness to enhance bilateral interaction. In this connection the head of state stated that the Turkmen side was ready to explore the ADB-initiated new cooperation-favored proposals. As Mr. Wencai Zhang noted, in the long run, the Asian Development Bank intends to give further technical and financial support for realizing large investment projects, including the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) transnational gas pipeline construction project initiated by the President of Turkmenistan. In this regard, the guest has noted the significance of the TAPI project realization, which is plentifully awarding for both the member-countries of the project and the countries of the region. The Vice-President of Asian Development Bank placed special emphasis on the significance of the President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov’s initiatives aimed at ensuring energy security and creating new transport-transit corridors. Banking and financial sphere, fuel and energy complex, transport and communications, power energy were sorted out as the priority areas of cooperation.. As was noted, the ADB plans to support small and medium-size businesses in Turkmenistan, as well as the programs for personnel training. In conclusion, the head of state Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov and his guest expressed confidence in further upward advancement of mutually beneficial interest-based cooperation.
