The Central Committee for Elections and Referendums (CEC) in Turkmenistan announced the outcomes of elections to Geneshi and Mejli in the two electoral districts, which were held on August 16 on the wide alternative basis in the atmosphere of openness and publicity. According to the CEC, elections to local governments (Gengeshi) were recognized legitimate. Thus, 6,041 representatives out of 13,528 nominees have been elected to the local government bodies, distributed as: 973 members - in Akhal velayat; 413 - in Balkan velayat; 1,416 – in Dashoghuz velayat; 1,449 – in Lebap velayat; and 1,790 - in Mary velayat. On the Election Day –August 16, all the 1,828 polling stations of the country demonstrated high attendance of electors. Elections to the national parliament (Mejlis) in the two electoral districts – № 7 «Gunesh» and № 8 «Dostluk» of Ashgabat city - were also declared as legitimate. G. Mammedova and A. Shajykov were elected as deputies of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan. In the course of the CEC meeting, active work of national observers, who carried out monitoring of the election process in all electoral districts, was specially marked. Due to tooling of all the polling stations with modern communication means, the procedures of processing and sending information to the CEC of Turkmenistan were carried out without delay. At the CEC meeting consideration and approval was given to the lists of elected members to Geneshi, who in accordance with the current national legislation will soon be published in the mass media.
