On November 25, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov had a meeting with Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, who came to our country to attend the first Global Sustainable Transport Conference. Sincerely appreciative of the warm welcome, taking advantage of the opportunity, the Prime Minister of Pakistan congratulated President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov on the upcoming landmark events – the top-level forum on sustainable transport under the aegis of the United Nations, and the official opening of the Asian International Railway Corridor (phase one). The head of state thanked the high-ranking guest for his personal participation in the forthcoming international forum and highlighted Turkmenistan’s special interest in strengthening fruitful cooperation with the neighboring countries in the region, with Pakistan particularly. Our countries are linked not only by geographical proximity, but also by the strong historical roots, the commonality of cultures and traditions, the head of state noted. Welcoming the upward development of the bilateral partnership, President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov and his eminent guest concurred that the trust-based interstate relations enabled Turkmenistan and Pakistan not only to effectively implement the different-level agreements, but also to actively explore the new areas of long-term cooperation. Acknowledging availability of the cooperation-favored enormous untapped potential, first and foremost in the fuel-energy and transit-transport fields, the parties placed special accent on the importance of the continent’s largest energy project – construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline. The humanitarian field was also identified as a priority area of the interstate cooperation, which in the new historical epoch is regarded as a decisive factor in bringing closer the two fraternal nations, who have cherished and passed down from generation to generation their fine national traditions regarded as their imperishable riches and tremendous heritage. At the end of meeting, having expressed confidence that in the long run the traditionally friendly Turkmen-Pakistani relations would continue to develop comprehensively, President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov and Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif wished peace, wellbeing and prosperity to the brotherly peoples of Pakistan and Turkmenistan. The meeting was attended by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Turkmenistan Abdul Malik.
