On November 25, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov had a meeting with Secretary General of the International Road Transport Union (IRU) Mr. Umberto de Pretto, who had arrived in the Turkmen capital to attend the Global Sustainable Transport Conference. In the course of meeting, the lively exchange of views was concentrated on the prospects for implementing joint international projects aimed at building the modern transport and communications infrastructure of the regional and transcontinental importance. As was noted, the Resolution of the UN General Assembly “Role of transport-transit corridors in ensuring international cooperation for sustainable development” initiated by Turkmenistan and approved unanimously by all the UN member states provides a solid basis for productive cooperation between sovereign Turkmenistan and all the partners concerned. The document, which first-ever officially fixated recognition of the proposal on global partnership for sustainable transport, produces, in fact, the conditions for creating and operating the international transport corridors, for generating a branched transport network that dovetails the road, railway, sea and air traffic. In conclusion, the nation’s leader Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov and IRU Secretary General Mr. Umberto de Pretto exchanged good wishes, having expressed, in turn, firm conviction that the present representative forum would promote achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, one of which is to create the most favorable environment for the sustainable development of the countries and nations not only in the region, but in the whole world.
