President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, who is on a working visit to Turkmenabat, received State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan Daishiro Yamagiwa, who arrived in Turkmenistan, leading the high-level delegation to participate in Turkmenistan-Japan Business Forum, which will take place in Ashgabat. The Turkmen leader and his guest had the one-on-one meeting; then the delegations of the two countries joined in the talks. A wide range of aspects of trade and economic cooperation and the implementation of joint projects and investment programmes were discussed. The most promising areas of cooperation include the fuel and energy, transport and communication, health care, chemical and other sectors. The sides discussed the opportunities for greater involvement of Japanese companies in the promotion of Turkmenistan's gas sector. In this regard, it was noted that the project of the gas chemical complex, located in Kiyanly settlement on the Caspian seashore, had received the special award of Trade and Export Finance (UK) as one of the top ten projects funded by export credit agencies in Europe and Eurasia in 2014. The Japanese financial and banking structures are involved in financing this project. The talks also focused on the prospects of cooperation in agriculture given the opportunities to use high-tech equipment from Japanese manufacturers. It should be noted that closer cooperation between Central Asian countries and Japan in the agricultural sector is one of the key initiatives put forward Turkmenistan that will be presiding over the Central Asia plus Japan Dialogue in 2015-2016. Emphasis was placed on the readiness of Japanese business companies to participate in investment projects in the electric power and the transport sectors, in particular in the project of a power plant in Lebap Velayat and a high-speed railway on the route Ashgabat-Avaza. The Turkmen leader conveyed the invitation to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to take part in the international conference dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the status of permanent positive neutrality of Turkmenistan, which will take place in December this year.
