Last week, the Turkmen capital hosted a two-day seminar on migration flows in Central Asia, co-organized by the Government of Turkmenistan and the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Refugees. Representatives of the country’s relevant ministries, branch departments, and national media participated in the meeting. In the course of the seminar, the participants highly appraised the policy of peace of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov, who steadily implements the Turkmen state’s neutral status in the interest of universal well-being, and makes a huge, truly invaluable contribution to the consolidation of peace throughout the world. The seminar attendees noted the fruitfulness of a dialogue of Turkmenistan-UN in such an important area as the humanitarian sphere. In particular, as a permanent member of the Executive Committee of the Program of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Turkmenistan makes a significant contribution to the efforts of the world community, taking concrete steps towards rendering of assistance to refugees and protection of their rights. The speakers’ reports covered an analysis of world and national experience in tackling the problems of refugees and stateless persons. As important and constructive steps of our country in this direction, the attendees noted that the Resolution of the head of Turkmen state had brought into use new forms of identity card and travel document of a stateless person and a refugee, residence permit. In conclusion, the attendees expressed confidence that the interest-based discussion of the issues included in the agenda of this seminar would help to solve global problems of migration management at the national, regional and international levels.
