In Sochi (Russia), the world chess championship among schoolboys in the 7-17-year-old age group was held, in which Turkmen sportsman Saparmyrat Atabayev won gold medal. Our compatriot achieved this success in the age group under 17.

On the weekends, the capital of Belarus hosted the CIS Open Cup – World ITF Taekwondo Cup, where Turkmen sportsmen demonstrated a high level of professionalism. They won nine medals - four gold, two silver and three bronze ones.

On December 9, a Martial Arts Complex of the capital’s Olympic Village hosted an opening ceremony of the Asian Jujitsu Championship, which gathered together several hundreds of participants from 24 countries, including China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Nepal, etc. On the first day of competitions the athletes of Turkmenistan won 16 prizes (three gold, four silver and nine bronze medals). This allowed our national team to take first place in the team rating.

On December 5, the Conference Hall of the National Sports and Tourism Institute hosted the meeting focused on discussing the Turkmen President- initiated Resolution on encouraging sportsmen – the winners in the Olympics and other large international competitions, as well as their coaches.

Football players of «Altyn asyr» and «Balkan» will represent Turkmenistan in 2017 at the second-largest AFC Cup Asian Club Tournament. The team of the Ministry of Communications in the capacity of the champion and holder of the Cup of the country will act in the group tournament, while «Balkan», as the vice-champion, will begin struggle for the continental club trophy from a qualifying round of competitions. It was defined by the results of the championship of Turkmenistan, the medals of which in four-circular tournament will be contended for by 10 teams.

The ice field of the capital’s sport centre «Galkan» hosted a friendly hockey match between the national teams of Turkmenistan and Ashgabat. The match is the first event in the planned cycle of duels within the frames of preparations for VIII Winter Asian Games which will pass in the next year’s February in Sapporo (Japan).

The capital of Kazakhstan, Astana, hosted the World Belt Wrestling Championship among the juniors born in 1999-2001, where our athletes gained major success and won13 medals – 3 golden, 5 silver and 5 bronze ones. This ensured that our national team was second in the team overall event.

These days, Medyn’ town (the Russian Federation) hosts the World Universal Fighting Championship attended by about 300 competitors from 35 countries – Germany, France, Finland, China, Israel, Iran, etc. On the first day of competitions, Turkmen sportsmen won three bronze medals in the “light” fights (the fights with application of wrestle technique only).

The first ice hockey open championship started in the ice arena of the capital’s Winter Sports Complex in Ashgabat. Participants of the championship are the children under 16 and of 2005-2008 year of birth. Eight teams during six months will fight for the medals in several stages in a circular system.

A three-day visit to Turkmenistan has completed of the Physical Culture and Sports Main Department delegation of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan led by the head of organization - Mohammad Humayun Hairany. In the course of visit, the Afghan delegation members discussed with Turkmen specialists the issues of advancing bilateral partnership in sports and conducted the issue-related negotiations with representatives of the Executive Committee of the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, the State Sports Committee, and others.
