On 18 July 2018, the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan to the United Nations, together with Permanent Missions of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the Republic of India, held a presentation headlined “Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India Gas Pipeline: New Energy Silk Road to Provide Access to Reliable, Sustainable and Modern Energy For All” at the UNDP headquarters in New York. A thematic photo exhibition was organized as part of the event that attended by the delegation of our country, representatives of UNDP, EU and UN member states. In addition, a special video presentation prepared by TAPI Pipeline Company Limited was shown to the attendees. During the presentation, representatives of Afghanistan, Pakistan and India emphasized that the TAPI pipeline project was of particular importance for the socio-economic development of participating countries and the region as a whole, for safeguarding its energy security. The attendees welcomed Turkmenistan’s steps towards promoting the TAPI project as a new energy Silk Road of our time that will provide access to energy for all. The significance of TAPI and other infrastructure projects is reflected in the Resolution extending the mandate of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan that was adopted in March at the meeting of the UN Security Council. As is known, the construction of the TAPI gas pipeline was inaugurated in December 2015. The laying of the Afghanistan section of the pipeline and the fiber-optic line along the Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan (TAP) route was launched in February of the current year. The Serhetabat–Torghundi railway was also commissioned then.
