Last week, the International Investment Forum of Turkmenistan was held in one of the economic and cultural centers of the Republic of Turkey. Over 700 delegates from about 50 countries of the world became participants in the second-time representative business meeting in Istanbul. Among them were representatives of leading companies, authoritative international organizations, financial institutions, analysts and mass media workers. In the course of the forum, representatives of state agencies and business circles of different countries were provided with information about the Turkmen economy’s growing potential, the progressive transformations, which had been carried out in different sectors of the national economy over recent years, the business-favored conditions created in our country, and new opportunities opening for leading foreign companies to participate in implementing large-scale national and international projects. Speakers have also noted that high priority is given to the development of production and technical vector. Financial resources invested in this direction facilitate increase in production, enhancement of its profitability, wide application of innovative technologies, creation of new jobs and on the whole, bringing of the Turkmen economy to a qualitatively new level. Giving arguments in favor of expanding mutually beneficial partnership in the industrial sector, the speakers have highlighted that in the last few years much importance has been attached to diversification of the sector. All necessary conditions are created in the country for stable development of the industry, enterprises for production of building materials, and carpet products, textiles, fishing and chemical industries, and the work in this field is well under way. Speaking of a development strategy of the telecommunications sector, the speakers have stressed that improvement of the sphere is one of the priority objectives of our country’s socio-economic development. The Turkmen state pays priority attention to fundamental modernization of communication and telecommunication enterprises by applying high technologies, advanced achievements and the latest equipment, as well as by broadening mutually beneficial cooperation with different countries of the world. The fact that the Turkmen leader-initiated large-scale international and regional projects aimed at creating modern transit-transport infrastructure have been successfully realized and are realized at present is also important to investors. Construction is another significant sphere for the cooperation advancement. Enormous investments in this sector ensure not only stable growth of the construction industry, but also contribute to increase in the number of new innovative industries, output of products (work and services), and creation of additional jobs. To achieve top-priority objectives of the state and national medium-term and long-term programs for Turkmenistan’s socio-economic development, hundreds of enterprises of different sectors are expected to be constructed. Introduction of innovative technologies in all sectors is an important aspect of the progressive reforms of the head of Turkmen state. In this connection, special significance is attached in our country to improvement of the field of science in compliance with present-day high requirements, provision of scientific and research processes with computer and information technologies, expansion of relations with research centers and leading higher education institutions of foreign countries. Special consideration was given to establishment of fruitful cooperation in the health care and pharmaceutical industry with application of innovative technologies. In all regions of Turkmenistan, new modern clinics and research clinical centers are built, various medical facilities and health resorts, whose equipment and a range of services rendered match the best world analogues, are reconstructed. The tourist industry, a promising branch of the national economy, can also serve as an area of cooperation. Its development occupies a special place and is rendered task-oriented support in the strategic plans of Turkmenistan. Today, the sector is represented by state and private tourism enterprises, recreation centers, high-class hotels, camps, facilities of the sphere of services, and others. The fuel and energy complex is also an important area for development of interaction. As known, Turkmenistan holds one of the leading positions in the international energy system, cooperating with all interested sides. To ensure global energy security and to supply Turkmen energy resources to international markets are the main components of state policy in this field. Not the least significant is cooperation in the power energy industry. As a possessor of enormous energy resources, Turkmenistan actively becomes integrated with the world economy in this field as well. The practical steps taken to upgrade the sector and modernize its logistics have enabled to build modern infrastructure. Within a short space of time, several new gas turbine power stations, complexes of substations have been constructed, thousands of kilometers of transmission lines have been reconstructed, hundreds of units of the latest construction and other specialized machinery from world’s leading manufacturers have been purchased. One of the priorities of the economic policy pursued by the President of Turkmenistan is creation of favorable conditions, rendering of all-round support to development of small and medium-size businesses. As a result of the steps taken, today representatives of the private sector carry out their activity in different spheres – trade and services, agriculture, construction and industry, production of a wide range of products with application of innovative technologies. The share growth of private business in the national economy has also become one of main factors of supplying the domestic market with competitive and quality products. In the frames of the International Investment Forum of Turkmenistan in Istanbul bilateral meetings were also held between members of the delegation of Turkmenistan and potential investors. In the course of an exchange of views on prospects for expansion of interaction, representatives of foreign companies and leading financial institutions expressed keen interests in intensifying cooperation with our country and their readiness to participate in implementing new investment projects in different sectors.
