To pursue the objectives of maximal harnessing of Turkmenistan’s geoeconomic potential by establishing multifunctional transport and transit corridors and by strengthening the role of the private sector in the country’s national economy, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed a Resolution authorizing the Türkmen Awtoban closed joint stock company, a member of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan – the customer and the general contractor – to design and construct the Ashgabat–Turkmenabat highway and its facilities, to improve the surrounding territory, and to manage the site. The document prescribes to commence the works in January 2019 and to commission the highway and its facilities fully ready for operation per the following schedule: the Ashgabat–Tejen section: December 2020; the Tejen–Mary section: December 2022; the Mary–Turkmenabat section: December 2023.
