Preparation for International Conference on Healthcare Discussed at Briefing at MFA

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan hosted a briefing dedicated to the preparation of the second International High-level Conference on Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases that will be convened on 9-10 April 2019 in Ashgabat on the initiative of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. The meeting was attended by senior officials of the Ministry of Healthcare and Medical Industry and the MFA; representatives of other ministries and government agencies of Turkmenistan; diplomatic missions and international organizations accredited to our country and mass media. The attendees reviewed organizational issues; took stock of the commitments undertaken at the UN High-level Meeting on Prevention of Noncommunicable Diseases; and discussed supporting the countries concerned to give them practical effect. The Ashgabat Forum will be convened to raise greater awareness of integrated, long-term healthcare policy that will have a positive impact on life expectancy in the countries of the world, and for successful implementation of measures that seek to prevent and control noncommunicable diseases. The attendees discussed a wide range of issues pertaining to prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases, highlighted the importance of mutually beneficial international exchange of expertise and the significance of outlining crucial areas for joining efforts to meet the set objectives. As noted at the meeting, reputed experts from 53 countries of the world are expected to take part in the high-level conference, deliver reports on available experience in the reduction of noncommunicable diseases and discuss the possibilities for its application in other countries. Moreover, the forum will be attended by representatives of the WHO headquarters and all relevant UN bodies, as well as other international governmental and non-governmental institutions. The participants at the briefing also stressed that the holding of the second International High-level Conference on Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases in the capital of Turkmenistan would serve as yet another evidence of Turkmenistan’s growing international credibility.
