Turkmenistan-EU: partnership with the aim to ensure sustainable development

The key areas of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the European Union were discussed during the meetings with Head of EU Delegation to Turkmenistan, Mr.Christian Berger at the ministries and departments of Turkmenistan. It was noted that the European Union was interested in widening the longstanding efficient dialogue with Turkmenistan, a strategic partner that occupies the leading positions in the Central Asian region and demonstrates the high peacekeeping capacity in the development of the regional and transregional cooperation. It was underlined the positive dynamics of the development of relations between Turkmenistan and the European Union that is proved by dozens of joint projects and programmes, including in the spheres of education, environment protection, economy as well as the opening of the EU official mission in Ashgabat in 2019. The meeting participants highly evaluated the outcomes of the 18th meeting of the EU-Turkmenistan Joint Committee held in Brussels in February, 2019. The Joint Committee reviewed the progress made in the last year between the EU and Turkmenistan, in particular in terms of trade, economic development, bilateral cooperation in the context of the new EU Strategy on Central Asia. It was underlined that the ambitious changes, initiated by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, as well as the EU implementation of new approaches towards the partnership with our country provided a solid platform for the further increase of the efficiency of the joint activity.
