Last week, Seoul hosted a round table meeting participated by members of the government delegation of Turkmen state on the instructions of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov, and representatives of business circles of the Republic of Korea. The business forum destined to concretize main areas of the Turkmen-Korean partnership in short- and long-term perspective was timed to the state visit by the leader of nation Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov to the Republic of Korea, within the framework of which the summit talks had been held in Seoul the day before. Among Korean participants of the business forum were representatives of world-known companies, such as “LG International Corp.”, “Hyundai Engineering Co. Ltd”, “Dongil Construction”, “Daewoo International Corporation”, “GS Engineering”, “Halla Corporation”, “Korea Health Industrial Development”, “Hyundai Corporation”, “Hyundai Motor Company”, “LX Korea kadastrol terik Corporation”, “KITA”, and others. The meeting attendees noted with satisfaction that the agreements reached and important documents signed in the course of the state visit by the head of Turkmenistan had given powerful impulse to further deepening of the bilateral relations. The fact that in recent years the trade turnover between the two countries has grown 10 times as much serves as an eloquent example. For a number of years, the largest companies of the Republic of Korea have been successfully working in such sectors of the national economy as the oil-and-gas, construction and transport complexes. However, the considerable potential of partnership is not yet being exploited in full. High rates of growth of the Turkmen economy, stable GDP growth – all of these make the Turkmen market highly attractive to Korea’s business circles. Realizing the strategy of fundamental reforms in all spheres, the Turkmen state relies on wide application of innovative technologies and attraction of the world’s best practice. In this context, Turkmenistan’s interest in implementing joint projects in the field of high-tech production based on processing of local raw materials, in particular, in the oil- and-gas, textile, cotton, electric power industries, and other sectors, was noted. Special consideration was given to the cultural-humanitarian relations, particularly, in the field of science, education, and information technologies. Speaking of the prospects of Turkmen-Korean cooperation, the meeting participants have highlighted that today there are all possibilities, and mainly, the goodwill of the sides to realize the enormous potential of the partnership for mutual benefit. The talks between President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov and President of the Republic of Korea Park Geun-hye were described as extremely constructive and fruitful, and resulted in signing a package of documents aimed at the mutually beneficial partnership all-round intensification. In this connection, the issues concerning practical implementation of the Agreements signed and joint projects, including construction of new units at the Turkmenbashi Refinery Complex, gas processing plants, as well as projects in the metallurgy and medical industries, and other sectors were in the focus of detailed discussion. Stressing the significance of intensifying the interaction in the trade and economic sphere, the forum participants spoke for increasing the volumes and broadening the spectrum of bilateral turnover. In this context, the sides stressed the necessity of encouraging active participation of small and medium sizes enterprises in mutual trade. Regular international exhibitions, fairs, conferences, and etc. are destined to contribute to it. Along with it, representatives of the friendly country’s business communities expressed great interest in advancing the interaction in such priority areas as ecology, construction, education, transport, communications, and practical application of renewable energy sources. Having announced a number of concrete proposals, Korean partners confirmed their readiness to provide their latest scientific and industrial developments for implementing joint national and regional projects, as well as to make a contribution to training qualified personnel for the Turkmen economy’s key sectors. Representatives of the Republic of Korea’s business circles expressed confidence that the agreements reached would be practically implemented in the near future and would serve further promotion of the mutually beneficial, traditionally friendly dialogue between the two countries.
