On May 13, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov, who was on an official visit to the Republic of Austria, met with OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier. In the course of the meeting, the head of state and the Secretary General of the OSCE have discussed key areas of further cooperation, the most important of which is enhancement of an energy dialogue and cooperation in ensuring security of international energy supplies, given the fact that the issue affects the fundamental interests of the majority of the OSCE member countries, and directly influences the stability of a geostrategic situation on the continent and in the world. Highly appraising the effectiveness of important joint projects realized in recent years, and stressing the role of the OSCE Center in Ashgabat in their realization, the parties also exchanged opinions on prospects for further cooperation in a number of topical areas, and the necessity of combining efforts to ensure security, stability and sustainable development in the region. In this connection, security of transport and transit corridors destined to facilitate the existing and future trade and goods flows between Asia and Europe, to create favorable conditions for sustainable economic development of the region’s countries were outlined as top-priorities areas of cooperation of mutual interest. Stressing the crucial importance of the aspect, the leader of nation expressed confidence that the adoption of the Turkmenistan-initiated resolution on the role of transport-transit corridors in ensuring international cooperation by the United Nations General Assembly would attract attention of the world community to this vital issue, and would give impetus to further constructive dialogue at interstate and international levels. Noting with satisfaction the effectiveness and positive experience accumulated in cooperation between Turkmenistan and the OSCE in different areas, the leader of nation Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov expressed his deep gratitude for the fruitful interaction and strengthening of productive partnership. Having emphasized that this year marks the 20th anniversary of our country’s status of permanent neutrality declared by the Special Resolution of the United Nations General Assembly, the head of state has invited the OSCE Secretary General to participate in the solemn events devoted to the remarkable date.
