President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held a meeting with President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, who arrived in Turkmenistan to attend the meeting of the Council of CIS Heads of State. The President of Turkmenistan thanked President Ilham Aliyev for the attention paid to the development of interstate relations based on the historical, cultural and spiritual community of the two fraternal peoples. Following the policy of peacefulness and wide fruitful cooperation, our country pays particular importance to strengthening traditionally friendly relations with a neighboring state. Expressing gratitude for the cordial welcome, President Ilham Aliyev expressed satisfaction with the constructive character of the Turkmen-Azerbaijani dialogue and underlined that cooperation between our countries would continue developing both in the bilateral format and within authoritative international organizations, including the CIS. During the meeting, the heads of Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan discussed a wide range of issues of interstate relations that have reached a qualitatively new level today. As emphasized, our countries as reliable foreign trade partners actively cooperate in various sectors of economy. Moreover, the special emphasis was placed on the effective role of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Azerbaijani Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation in expanding the product range. The interlocutors also noted that as the largest producers and suppliers of energy resources in the world, the both states have great potential in the fuel and energy complex, taking into account geographical proximity. The transport sector stands as a strategic direction of the joint partnership. It was also emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation in the spheres of culture, education and science, tourism and sports. The leaders of the two states discussed the issues of the regional and international agenda. In conclusion of the meeting, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev wished each other health and success, and happiness and prosperity to the fraternal peoples of Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan. Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadyarov attended the meeting.
