Prospects of CIS economic partnership are discussed at CIS headquarters in Minsk

The headquarters of the CIS Executive Committee in Minsk hosted a round table meeting “On Strategic Economic Cooperation of the Member States of the Commonwealth of Independent States” on November 19. The meeting was initiated by the Turkmen side. During the meeting, it was underlined that the priority vector for the development of the dialogue in the CIS space was economic cooperation, which is based on multifaceted documents - the Strategy of economic development of the Commonwealth of Independent States for the period until 2020, the Free Trade Agreement. Those speaking during the meeting were unanimous in their opinion that the Commonwealth could become one of the effective centres of trade, economic, transport and logistics, energy cooperation in Eurasia, and the Ashgabat Declaration, which is aimed at increasing the competitiveness of the CIS countries both through the integration into the world economic relations and unification of geographical and infrastructure capabilities, technical, technological and transit potentials of the Commonwealth states, is to strengthen their position in the global economy, to increase the level of well-being of their peoples. It was underlined the role of the Commonwealth as a major economic entity, in the implementation of large-scale projects on the CIS space and adjacent regions. Speaking during the meeting, Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee Sergei Lebedev emphasized that the Declaration on Strategic Economic Cooperation was signed by the heads of all states participating in the meeting of the Council. In his opinion, this means that the document balances common and national interests, identifies agreed approaches and priority vectors for enhancing cooperation. Sergey Lebedev emphasized that when drafting the Declaration, the Turkmen side, as the initiator of the document, took into account the views of all CIS countries and organically accumulated the experience of economic cooperation developed within the framework of the Commonwealth. According to the Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee, the CIS has already started implementing the Declaration, the main provisions of which are included into CIS programme - the Concept for the Further Development of the CIS and the CIS Economic Development Strategy for the period until 2030. Ambassadors, plenipotentiary representative of the CIS member states to the charter and other oagencies of the Commonwealth, the heads of the CIS Executive Committee, leading specialists of the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Belarus and the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics, as well as Turkmen students getting education in Minsk universities attended the meeting.
